Field hockey
In developmentNew ball, new task
Reorient to ball and target immediately after an interruption.
6 players · 9 min · 24 × 20 m
The animation shows one played situation with a decision and response, not a required pattern. Regains and restarts are marked schematically; stop unsafe pressure. Finishes use unoccupied practice goals with clear run-off.
Organisation
Three against three, two mini-goals. The coach stands outside with spare balls. Only one ball is active at a time.
Execution
Play free 3v3. After a goal or out-of-bounds the coach calls stop, waits until the old ball is still and outside, then feeds the team entitled to restart. That team attacks the opposite goal from the previous phase. Rest after 60 seconds and start another round.
Coaching
- Find the new ball first, then the target direction.
- One player offers depth, another stays underneath.
- Do not restart while the old ball remains active.
Easier
Ask players to point at their target before the new feed.
Harder
Vary the safe feeding position without naming a fixed receiver.
What to observe
Count restarts with two immediate support options and the correct target direction.
Equipment
Sticks, one active ball, spare balls outside the area and cones; mini-goals where drawn. Dimensions and duration are adaptable starting proposals.
