Brake and accelerate again

Decelerate the ball and change direction under control.

1 players · 5 min · 10 × 10 m

The animation shows one played situation with a decision and response, not a required pattern. Regains and restarts are marked schematically; stop unsafe pressure. Finishes use unoccupied practice goals with clear run-off.

Organisation

One player, four stopping boxes around a starting marker. One ball; no queue. Repeat at an individual pace.

Execution

Choose a free stopping box. Carry in, stop the ball completely and leave through a different side. Visit all four boxes in any order. Record four controlled stops, rest 20 seconds and repeat.

Coaching

  • Shorten your steps before the stopping box.
  • Move your feet with the new direction.
  • Can you leave without a large corrective touch?

Easier

Make the stopping boxes two metres wide and walk.

Harder

Use a different exit side in each box next round; compare control, not only time.

What to observe

Across four visits record how often the ball stayed inside the box before leaving.

Equipment

Sticks, one active ball, spare balls outside the area and cones; mini-goals where drawn. Dimensions and duration are adaptable starting proposals.
