Forward pair: clear and join

Coordinate the runs of a depth player and a supporting forward.

5 players · 9 min · 24 × 18 m

The animation shows one played situation with a decision and response, not a required pattern. Regains and restarts are marked schematically; stop unsafe pressure. Finishes use unoccupied practice goals with clear run-off.

Organisation

A1 and A2 against B1 and B2, with neutral feeder N1 behind a starting strip. Two empty mini-goals opposite. N1 stays in the strip.

Execution

N1 chooses the receiving forward. A may reuse N1 but can score only after both forwards touch the ball. B scores on a regain by finding N1. Restart at N1 after a goal or out-of-bounds; swap forwards and defenders after four attacks, N1 after two minutes.

Coaching

  • One forward clears; the other fills the released lane.
  • Receive seeing both the goal and second forward.
  • Who created space without receiving?

Easier

Restrict one defender to screening.

Harder

Allow N1 only one return after the opening pass.

What to observe

Count attacks involving both forwards before an open low finish.

Equipment

Sticks, one active ball, spare balls outside the area and cones; mini-goals where drawn. Dimensions and duration are adaptable starting proposals.

Formation and position role

4-4-2 · Left forward

As left forward, agree with the right forward who comes short and who seeks depth. Offer a different passing angle after a lay-off; together screen a central outlet after losing possession.

4-4-2 · Right forward

As right forward, complement the left forward: seek depth when they come short and become available when they create space. Coordinate the first pressure after losing possession.
