In developmentCut back to a late runner
Use the baseline without committing the second attacker too early.
4 players · 8 min · 20 × 16 m
The animation shows one played situation with a decision and response, not a required pattern. Regains and restarts are marked schematically; stop unsafe pressure. Finishes use unoccupied practice goals with clear run-off.
Organisation
Two attackers against two defenders, one empty practice goal. Mark a two-metre baseline strip and a cutback box in front of goal.
Execution
One attacker must receive or carry into the baseline strip. Only a low finish after a backward pass into the cutback box counts. The second attacker enters that box only after the strip entry. B may counter to the start gate. Restart after goal/out-of-bounds; swap roles after three attacks.
Coaching
- Check support before reaching the baseline.
- The second runner waits until the strip is reached.
- Bring the ball back behind the defence.
Easier
Keep one defender inside the cutback box.
Harder
Let B defend the strip too; A chooses recycling or going outside.
What to observe
Count legal arrivals in the cutback box even if the finish misses.
Equipment
Sticks, one active ball, spare balls outside the area and cones; mini-goals where drawn. Dimensions and duration are adaptable starting proposals.
